aboutMICHELLE
Michelle Green-Smerdon is an energetic physiotherapist from Durban, South Africa. This motivated and hardworking physiotherapist has over 15 years’ experience, providing quality treatment in private and hospital environments. Michelle has run her own private practice for the past 10 years, treating neuromusculoskeletal conditions focusing on sporting injuries and dance medicine. She has trained in Ballet (gaining her advanced 1 level) as well as Modern Dancing (Intermediate level) since her days in Windhoek, Namibia where she grew up. Michelle then moved to Pretoria to start her studies. It was here where she started applying her physio knowledge in rehabilitating Advanced Ballet Dancers. Upon moving to Durban, she continued to attend open dance classes in Ballet, Modern and Contemporary. Her passion for movement analysis and skill in rehabilitating dancers grew exponentially and became her focus.
Treating many dancers in her practice, Michelle has gained extensive experience with a huge variety of injuries, which gives her a unique perspective in dealing with pain. She has completed various courses, including neuromusculoskeletal (OMT1) and sports (SPT1) course which only adds to her skills. She is proficient in conducting clinical assessments and effecting varied unique physical therapy treatment plans. She thoroughly enjoys helping people and getting them back to the activities they love.
Michelle continues to further educate herself in dance medicine, having recently completed an 8 week PT Dance program with Jenna Kantor. Her next goal is to educate physiotherapists on the clinical assessment, management, treatment, and injury prevention of Dancers.
